IT'S THAT SEASON AGAIN

Hi Guys

Its that magical time of the year again!!

and Midnight Jazz as you may know is situated on a tropical island.. BUT .. Heavens to Betsy we has a cold snap!!!! We have a thick layer of snow on the ground.. the water round the island has frozen!

its OK the dance floor have been swept clear of the slushy stuff.. ( I had to get Agatha to do something!)

you will be pleased to hear that we have free sets of ice skates dotted about the island so you can skate to your hearts content.. we intend to take advantage of this wonderful weather by holding some events on the ice!

so don't delay come on down to M.J.'s where the weather maybe cold.. but the music and greeting is always warm.

The seasons greetings to you all :)

We are 400!!!

Our little family is growing; on august we had around of 200 members in the group of Midnight Jazz. Today, few months latter, we proudly have 400 members. I'm very happy about that, because we are realize ours members stay in the group and not going away, and we all know its a trouble because Lindens just leave us have a maximum of 25 groups.

I want say thanks for everyone, because we are growing in numbers of members and also in our traffic to the club. I say thanks again, because you people make me feel at home when I run events and see you all there, or when I have the chance to chat or dance with you.

MJ is my family, my home, my refuge, my dream. I want to make you feel the same feeling and always welcome...

PLEASE READ AND ACT NOW

As you may be aware Linden Labs have had second thoughts on Open Sims.. the basics are that they are proposing to increase the tiers for open space sims by 66% (for further information see this link)

If this is allowed to go ahead Midnight Jazz will have to seriously consider its future. We dont ask or get a great deal of money from our guests.

We have never been about the money side of business, we just look for enough to cover tiers to every month, This has never happened in over the year MJ's has been in existance. and as a result myself and Olympia have seriously invested a great deal of real life money and paid for the tiers. This has been fine.. Even though as a European i have to personally pay VAT on top of it all.

Second Life is a game.. and in these hard economic times we all have to justify out outgoings. Its a wonderful resource and great social resource. I truely apprecicate the wonderful friends I have met in this great club. However.. I could still meet and appreciate them without the club.

However.. after all this gloom and doom. there are a few things we can do to prevent the worst happening. firstly go to and vote against this increase the link is here please encourage all your friends to sign ( and alts) .. Secondly please join the SOS (save our sims) group. Show your opposition to this huge price hike. If we dont, only a few super clubs will exist and we will all pay alot more for enjoying what should be a pleasureable experiance. At worst MJ's will close, at best we will have to relocate again to a more populated sim, and lose that special charm the club has. No more dances in the moonlight. No more romantic cuddles without prying eyes watching you all the time.

Thank you friends for reading this rant... now back to the music!

Don’t forget tomorrow 24th of October we will have martini in the morning broadcasting live from Midnight Jazz!!!!!
Yes Uncle Brad will be there spinning his disks and taking requests.

http://slurl.com/secondlife/Midnight%20Hour/173/71/25

a little about martini in the morning

“There's a great jazz radio station on the internet, appropriately called ‘Martini In The Morning', and originates from the Standard Radio Corporation in Sherman Oaks, CA. MITM is the musical creation of Brad 'Martini' Chambers, whose background in the music biz is decades long and extremely impressive -- as a short read of his bio on the MartiniInTheMorning.com website will quickly reveal.

MITM features lots of old time jazz standards and new ones too! Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, Chet Baker, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Tony Bennett are definite winners. Others in this illustrious grouping include: Louis Prima and Keely Smith, Rosemary Clooney, Peggy Lee, Lena Horne, Nat King Cole, Natalie Cole, Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James, Aretha Franklin, Lionel Hampton, Les Paul and Mary Ford, Tom Jones, Barbra Streisand, Shirley Bassey, Bobby Darin, Mel Torme, Della Reese, Sarah Vaughan, Paul Anka, Bette Midler, Diana Krall with B.B. King … and the list goes on!

Listening to all these wonderful artists one after the other, is like old times for this writer who as a child in the 1960s, grew up watching many of these artists' performances featured on top TV variety shows like The Ed Sullivan Show, Dean Martin, Judy Garland, and Tom Jones. They were also part of the talent lineup on many memorable variety hour specials with Jack Benny and Bob Hope -- and even the short-lived but extremely entertaining Leslie Uggams Show, which in one memorable episode featured Lena Horne as special guest singing with Horne-lookalike, Uggams.

MITM also plays some delightful jazzy surprises, including: George Benson, Smokey Robinson, Mac 'Dr. John' Rebenack, Toni Tennile, Aaron Neville, Elton John, Jack Sheldon, Harry Connick Jr., Jane Monheit, Rod Stewart, Patti Austin, Michael Bolton, Bobby Caldwell, Debby Boone, Robbie Williams, Linda Ronstadt, Michael Buble, Bono, Sting, Robert Palmer, James Taylor, Carly Simon and Steve Tyrell.

Many of these artists are familiar to listeners, from their '70s to '90s pop and rock fame -- but they also excel in the jazz world, and seem 'born to it'!

Chambers began this 'internet jazz feast for the ears' as a labor of love ... and it shows in all the positive vibes that come from each and every song played on this extremely upbeat station ... a musical 'variety hour' of a sort, that listeners can enjoy 24/7, commercial free!

Martini In The Morning.com is an internet jazz station that jazz fans can definitely leave on all the time, without getting tired of listening to its highly enjoyable and varied play list.

Well, I guess it's back to some great jazz listening on Martini In The Morning ...

Midnight Jazz Arts: Odysseus Magic

Midnight Jazz Arts is a extra activity of our club to create a space for real artist to show their work. We had in september Rosina_807 and her collection "Drawings" and now, for october we have Odysseus Magic and his work: "the art of magic". He use SL for his inspiration and make paintings about the characters of Second Life.

Odysseus is constantly changing his paintings, so its a great opportunity to come down more often and see how his work are changing, maybe you will have luck and find him working in our club, and you can have the chance to talk with him about his work or ask him a special work, who knows...

Just enjoy the art

Some News..

Hi to all our good friends in Second Life, that have popped in to view our blog. Agatha has set this blog up to keep you all informed as to all that’s new happening at your favourite Jazz club in Second Life.

Well, what i can tell you is that we are heading for interesting times, I realise that the economic situation is making it hard for people to justify going out in 1st life, so an evening spent on an idyllic lost island will come as a welcome relief to most of us battling life’s hardships.

We have therefore put some great new features you may like to explore....

Our new salsa dance floor is open and operational just cross the bridge and you will be transported 'down South America way' the infectious rhythm and sensual dances will inspire your senses, and warm our latin blood...... woot!

I am constantly surprised enthralled and captivated by live musicians turning their talents to second life. So. We are currently constructing a sailing ship next to the salsa zone, this will be for musicians to play and entertain us. The idea at the moment is to invite musicians along to play on the hip whist the audience dances on a specially construed dance floor on the dock side. Many thanks have to go to Carmen Foden for constructing this wonderful craft! If you have an artist you would like to hear please drop myself or Agatha a line in-world or if you are an artist please please please contact us!

We also have new Gondolas placed on the water for that romantic moon light tour of the island. Nothing could be more romantic that the stars in the sky and your lover in your arms. I’m going weak at the knees just thinking about it!

one of the gondolas will transport you to our new high birds nest lodge. A place to sit relax and cha to friends or loved ones. Again I have to thank Carmen Foden for the build.. she is Very talented!

Well that’s it for the moment.. if you have any suggestions on how we can improve Midnight Jazz please just let us know.. I will be placing a suggestion box at MJ's main dance floor for your comments. We would love to hear from you..

Lastly, I would very much like to thank all the staff and friends for supporting MJ's in the last year or so. Special thanks have to go to the following people. Bluecloud Whitfield for being there when it mattered, she was and is a huge support to me, and when I thought all was lost at the end of Jazzmine Breaze (the previous jazz club) and helped start up Midnight Jazz.. thank you hun. I have to thank our great hosts and hostesses Malverp and Louise.. thanks guys.. your doing a great job! Agatha.. oh my god.. i can't forget Agatha!! You have been a revelation to this club. I’m so glad we gave you that chance to shine. She mad as a box of monkeys but to me thats a positive point!

I would also love to thank Brad 'martini' Chambers and Michelle Briddell of www.martiniinthemorning.com their music is integral to the club and play simply the best music ever created. but more of them for a later blog post!

Lastly.. i have to thank the love of my life, the woman that puts up with me, the wonderful, the incomparable, the woman that makes my heart flutter every time i see her, Olympia Decosta, my wife, my lover, my soul mate. Without her love I wouldn't be half the man i am. (she has something of value she keeps in her purse!)

Thank you for reading this guys.. and remember.. to pop down and see us sometime.

love

Starfruit Booth

English:
I know some of you are wondering, what is that phone booth in the entrance of MJ? well, if you don't know, its a Starfruit cabin, is a free system to send SMS (short messages to mobile phones)... WHAT? yes! you can send free sms to any mobile phone around the world.

How?
Simply, go to the telephone booth and type in public chat and very close to the cabin: /8 followed by the mobile phone number of your friend and then the message. Example:/8 0015551234567 Hi Joe! I'm in SL. Join me! Bob.
Don't forget your country code (001 for US, 0041 for Switzerland, 0056 for Chile, etc).
I tried the service and works excelent! well, except with my sister Leisie Anatine, she lives in Mexico and she didn't received all the sms I sent to her. But you can try with your SL or RL friends.
Spanish:
A disfrutar!!!

How i met Midnight Jazz

In 2007, a very closed friend: Coffee Binder (btw, i lost him months ago, I dont know nothing about him) invited me to be part of a group of friends of him: Midnight Jazz, was a little club on the beach with nice music and dance balls, a paradise to avoid those big and giant clubs so crowed. I used to be there with my friend Wiley Arai, and dance a lot (what happen with you?)...
One day on september 2007, I was haging around on SL and a notice capped my attention: a guy, Quirky Torok said, I need a manager to Midnight Jazz... I thought, what a hell do a manager in here? and my curiosity was foward and IM him right away, and after a little chat, I was the new manager of Midnight Jazz... and i didnt knew which will be mi responsibilities or what... and my english that time was not too good, so i had serious troubles in my first meeting there: i remember was Quirky, Blue, Gregg, Mal and Mic, and they were taking decision about construction and opening day for Midnight Jazz, and they talking so fast so i didnt had time to translate properly.
Sadly I dont have pictures of that time, but i still remember the fire place where we sat. But since that day I am involved with this amazing club.
